Do clothing products require bubble lined or padded envelopes?

Why do your clothing products require bubble lined or padded envelopes?

In a reversal of the norm, this is actually one of the FAQs I most often ask people calling or emailing us. I probably ask this question at least once a week and I have yet to have anyone ever give me a good answer.

People will often ask us for cushioned, padded, or bubble lined mailer envelopes to ship everything from tee shirts to lingerie. The fact is if the exterior of the mailer envelope is strong and dependable, the cushioning material layer adds nothing but cost. In the case of envelopes with a paper fill and padding, it is even worse. Padded mailers add a lot of shipping weight as well.

A few of the misconceptions I have heard include:

Padded packaging provides protection

The fact is that unless there is something fragile about your clothing that could potentially break (for example rhinestones) shock absorption is really not necessary. During shipping, thin packages and mailer envelopes may end up under a larger, heavier box, but normally that does not damage the apparel being shipped.

Padded packaging provides moisture protection

Some shippers believe an inner liner of padding, -especially plastic bubble- creates an additional layer of moisture resistance. Technically it does, but as I usually tell people, even corrugated boxes and paper mailers provide all of the water resistance needed in most weather delivery scenarios.

Padded packaging saves time

I suppose compared to a box with a loose void fill product like packing peanuts or an envelope with product wrapped in foam or bubble wrap, an envelope pre-lined with a cushioning material is indeed a time and labor saver. However it is not faster than no cushioning and when you are shipping clothing, no cushioning is typically all that is required.

Question: What is the Best Solution for E-Commerce Packaging?

Answer: Whatever packaging product is best for you, the product being shipped, and your customer.

Yes, we do offer bubbled lined mailers with a poly or paper exterior. We also sell a wide variety of unpadded paper and plastic mailer envelopes. In addition, no one beats us on our selection of die cut mailer boxes or standard RSC style shipping boxes. So there really is not an e-commerce packaging solution that we do not offer, so we are not likely to steer you wrong.

We encourage you to call us at 630-551-1700 or contact Salazar Packaging via email and we will be glad to help you make an informed decision. There is no cost to talk with us. Taking advantage of our decades of experience can save you a very time consuming and costly mistake. The options are many but only one is the best.
