Reasons to Print Your Custom Inserts

Recently my girlfriend received a box from a large, well-known company, and I sat down with her to share in the “unboxing moment.” I won’t reveal the name of the company, but I certainly expected better and was honestly shocked to find a large, unprinted white insert holding products once we opened the box. Only because I am in the industry, I was curious and removed the insert to find a sharp, nicely printed design underneath, on the inside bottom of the box. Somebody dropped the ball on this, allowing one of the best features of their box to be hidden behind a large, unattractive, unprinted plain insert.

Don’t make the same mistake!

Amplify Your Unboxing Experience

No matter how great the outside of a box looks, opening it up to find product settled against a plain white or brown backdrop is often a letdown. We often say that the vast majority of your printing/graphics focus should be on the INSIDE. However, even if you are printing the inside of your box, if you are covering it with an unprinted insert, it is wasteful and pointless.

Whether your insert is paperboard or corrugated, we can print in a variety of methods to achieve gorgeous results that really make the insert pop, which will beautifully compliment your products. Don’t let your unboxing experience be anything less than memorable for your customers.

Printing an Insert Can Be Low Cost or Even Free!

In most cases, adding print to your insert will add some cost to the per unit cost of the insert, but it can be minimal with modern equipment that is designed to cut and print board in the same pass. Print plates on inserts can often times be lower in cost than print plates for boxes. Additionally, you might even be able to print your insert for no added cost. A simple one color flood coat print can be achieved with a house matte print plate, so essentially the only thing needed from a manufacturing standpoint is more ink.

Communicate With Your Customers

This is an often overlooked aspect of custom printing of a box or insert. There is valuable real estate there to engage with your customers. Give them instructions on how to best unbox the product from the packaging. Give them details or guidelines for properly using the product itself. Point them in the right direction regarding recycling of the packaging. Share your social media or other avenues of best ways for them to get in touch with you. Encourage their feedback. Send them a note of thanks and appreciation. Printing can be more than just eye-candy. It can be your most effective tool of communication with your end users.
