Chances are the great majority of the corrugated board you have used or seen is standard, double face board. It consists of a middle section of fluted paper creating that zig zag, “rippled” layer, and that is sandwiched between two flat layers of liner board paper. The three layers (paper/fluting/paper) glued together is what creates a typical corrugated container.
Single face has only one layer of paper on one side., and the fluting or ripples are left exposed on the opposite side of the board as shown in the photo below. Not every application requires paper inside and out, and in some cases, having the fluting exposed can actually serve a functional and valuable purpose.
