E-commerce Packaging: What it means to be application driven.

Some packaging companies are understandably driven by the assortment of products they offer. If bubble wrap void fill is the most available and profitable protective material available, it is likely what their commissioned sales force is going to be directed to sell.

Many Packaging Tools, and We Know How to Use Them.

We have two things going for us, many companies do not:

Application Experience – 18 years, creating millions of boxes for thousands of customers. Many applications are similar but are never identical.

Product Assortment – We are constantly reviewing new products to make sure we are offering the latest and best solution for every customer’s unique needs.

What this all means is that we do not have to force fit a customer’s application into any specific solution. For example, is the best container to utilize a box or an envelope? Should it be an RSC box, or a die cut corrugate mailer? If an envelope, how about a paper envelope or a poly mailer envelope and should it be cushioned or maybe non-cushioned?

We take the time to discuss the specifics such as how it will ship, min and max weight, how fragile the product is, and several other key factors including the recipient’s expectations. We are also big believers in real world application ship and drop testing. We will also gladly provide samples of our recommendations so you can be sure the packaging you use will get the job done.

Does Salazar Packaging Offer Foam Packaging Products?

Yes, we do. That is a surprise to many people who know we are a leading provider of eco-friendly, recyclable, reusable, e-commerce packaging products. Overall, foam is not considered a good environmentally friendly material, however, there are times when foam is the best packaging solution. See the liquor bottle example in the photo included in this post. The value and weight of the bottles being shipped demanded more protection than we could possibly provide with a corrugated insert design and still deliver an attractive presentation.

The Wide Variety of Foam Products.

There are several types of foam that are indeed not very eco-friendly. For example, polyurethane, which is a very dense but soft foam that is most often used in furniture cushions and bedding. Another high protection, low recyclability foam is polypropylene which is often used in temperature-controlled food packaging.

Conversely, polyethylene foam, like the black foam we used to protect the liquor bottles, is very recyclable. In this particular case, it provided the necessary protection as well as a great unboxing experience. Our client was very pleased with excellent feedback and gratitude from his customers.

Are we suggesting you use more foam?

Absolutely not. We are suggesting you allow us to help you determine the best and most economical material to create an effective and attractive packaging design. Yes, we also realize unit cost is a major concern for everyone so we never lose sight of the many factors which influence and determine your total cost and how your packaging can help or hurt you.
