Three Great Reasons to Use Unpadded Mailer Envelopes

There are a variety of products that are not a good fit for a mailer envelope packaging solution. You cannot, for example, put glass bottles in an unpadded paper envelope and expect a favorable result after shipping. However, the vast majority of applications can be a great fit for mailer envelopes, especially those that are either on a quantity restriction (ordering less than 1,000 in most cases) or on a tight budget. Envelopes can be a low-cost, low-minimum alternative to boxes, without sacrificing branding, sustainability or product protection.

Durable and Reliable Material

Yes it is true that paper mailer envelopes are most commonly used for soft goods and clothing items. However, it is most certainly not true that they cannot accommodate other products such as brochures, magazines, or tea/coffee pouches. A paperboard rigid mailer is best suited for items that truly cannot bend during shipment, such as photographs or important documents. But unpadded paper mailers are extremely durable and made from a construction-grade paper that will protect internal items, provided they are not overpacked or filled with heavy weight that can damage or puncture the packaging. Over decades of selling this product, we have not received more than one or two notices of the envelopes failing during shipment, and these were always a result of overpacking. The material is also water resistant and can withstand the elements.

Low Minimums and Cost

Unpadded paper mailers are sold by the case (200-500 mailers). It is the only branded product we offer below 1,000 quantity, and is substantially lower in MOQ compared to other mailer envelopes. Rigid mailers are usually a 2,500 minimum, and poly mailers are often around 25,000 MOQs! The cost is also often lower than boxes by comparison on a per unit basis. Print plates are a fraction of the cost as well. When you factor in the lightweight, flat size of the mailers, this also reduces storage and shipping costs by a great deal. Including both the cost of shipping mailers from our plant to you, and you to your end user. Another cost-saving element to consider is that the envelopes are very easy to pack, and do not need assembly like a box or insert, reducing labor cost and time.

Beautiful Branding Options

It used to be a bit of a drawback of paper mailer envelopes in that the customization options were admittedly somewhat limited. Designs had to be limited to 1 or 2 colors as a flexographic printing process. However, with new print capabilities, we can now digitally print virtually any design or amount of colors you can dream up, on either kraft or white paper. This is a true gamechanger and has really expanded the use case for this already amazing packaging product.
