Great Packaging Designs Have No Boundaries or Borders

Packaging, especially corrugated packaging, has become a global community. Anyone can borrow or steal any design they see, primarily because corrugated designs are very difficult to patent, especially internationally. Many times, over the course of the last eighteen years, we have found our designs shared and touted in distant places like China and closer markets like Canada and Mexico.

I have said we too are not above borrowing a good idea and today I am sharing one that caught our eye, from Greece. Before you think our business has gone to the dogs, we believe this item is clever and aligns beautifully with our customer’s environmentally friendly objectives.

No KaKa – Pet Waste Solution.

In Greece and presumably other European countries, in public places such as a beach or park, you may find a dispenser offering this great product for free. It easily opens and erects into a clean container for pet waste and then snaps closed when fully “loaded” for disposal in the nearest waste can. This clean-up process could prove messy and awkward, but this ingenious design even features a scooper and a well-designed carrying handle. Both pieces tear off the blank so no additional pieces are necessary.

Can This or Any Packaging Design Be Improved?

Like any good team of packaging geeks we wasted no time, reviewing this sample package and offering suggestions and ideas that might make it:

  • Easier to use
  • More cost efficient to manufacture
  • More attractive (for the pet owner, not the pet)

Our approach: Review, review and then review again.

We firmly believe that EVERY design can be improved, even one of ours. That is why every design we help create for any customer is reviewed by a minimum of three different people before it is offered. We have discovered that the more sets of eyes that critique a design, the more likely we are to achieve perfection. The different perspectives and experience can only serve to make us better.

Of course, the ultimate approval is by our customer, because it is their satisfaction that is necessary. When we suggest a change, it is based on the years of experience, and the vast number of designs we have seen and created. A suggestion or change is always accompanied by an explanation and in most cases, we are pleased when a customer understands, agrees and appreciates the expertise we bring to the table.
